Meghan Roach, Chief Executive Officer

Meghan Roach joined Roots in 2019 as Interim CFO before becoming CEO in 2020. Before joining Roots, she spent eight years with Searchlight Capital Partners, a private equity firm with operations in North America and Europe. Prior to Searchlight, Meghan was a member of the private equity investment team at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, after beginning her career with KPMG. Meghan served on the Roots Board of Directors from 2015 to 2017 and rejoined in 2020. She also currently sits on the Board of M&M Food Market as well as the Board and Investment Committee of the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation. Meghan holds an MBA with first class distinction from the University of Oxford, an Honours Bachelor of Commerce with first class distinction from Queen's University, and a CPA/CA designation.

Leon Wu, Chief Financial Officer

Leon Wu joined Roots in 2016 and has increasingly taken on major roles in financial and operational matters. Previously, he served as Vice President of Finance and Strategy, where he led the functional areas of financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, and corporate strategy. Prior to Roots, Leon held roles at KPMG LLP, performing audits of public companies within the consumer retail industry, and APP Group. Leon is a CPA, CA and holds a BBA with Distinction from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Karuna Scheinfeld, Chief Product Officer

Karuna Scheinfeld brings two decades of apparel industry experience to Roots from a variety of global brands. She joined Roots from her most recent role as VP of Design at Canada Goose, where she led the design and development of the brand’s full men’s and women’s collections across all seasons and product categories. Prior to that, Karuna was VP of Design for Woolrich Inc., where she was responsible for conceptualizing, designing and executing the full men’s and women’s collections across multiple labels. She has also held senior design leadership roles at American Eagle Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch. Karuna started her fashion career with Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana, and holds a BFA, Fashion Design from the Parsons School of Design.

Kaleb Honsberger, Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

Kaleb Honsberger is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. He joined Roots in 2016, bringing with him more than a decade of experience in securities, corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate and commercial law. Before joining Roots, Kaleb served as a director of legal at Walmart Canada focused on retail-based commercial and competition law. He was previously in private practice at the law firms White & Case LLP in New York and Stikeman Elliott LLP in Toronto. Kaleb holds an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, University of Western Ontario, and a J.D. from the Cornell Law School. He is a member of the bars of New York and Ontario.

Michelle Lettner, Senior Vice President, Human Resources

Michelle Lettner joined Roots in 2015 and currently serves as Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Michelle has more than 20 years of experience in human resources. Prior to joining Roots, Michelle was the Director of Human Resources of Target Canada from 2012 to 2015 and was the Director of Human Resources at BMW Canada from 1997 to 2012. Michelle has a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Carleton University, a Masters of Adult Education degree from the University of Calgary and a human resources certification from Seneca College.

Melinda McDonald, Vice President, Wholesale and Business Development

Melinda McDonald is the Vice President, Wholesale and Business Development of Roots. Melinda joined Roots in 1997, and has served in increasingly senior capacities within the organization over the past 20 years. Melinda is responsible for leading our international partner relationships and license efforts, with a focus on continued growth with our regional retail operator in Taiwan and China and, over the longer term, developing partnerships to expand into additional international markets.

Sonya Thomas, Vice President, eCommerce & Customer Experience

Sonya Thomas joined Roots in 2022 as Vice President of eCommerce and Customer Experience. Previously, she spent four years at SSENSE (Canada), leading teams and projects across a wide range of functions, including private brands, retail, merchandising, marketing and strategy. She also has experience leading eCommerce and omnichannel customer experience teams at Brown Thomas (Ireland) and Macy's Inc. (USA). She began her career as a strategy consultant at Bain and Company, working across its global office network for several years. Sonya holds an Honors BA in International Relations from Brown University, an MPA-ID from Harvard Kennedy School and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Ron Ijack, Senior Vice President, Information Strategy & Systems

Ron Ijack joined Roots in 2021, bringing with him more than two decades of diverse IT experience. Prior to joining Roots, Ron was the VP of Application Development at Canada Goose for two years. In addition to retail, Ron held increasingly senior roles in various industries including the software start-up Upstream Works and multimedia companies the Globe & Mail and Postmedia. He has spent his career running software development, web development, project management teams and agile transformations. In his role at Roots, Ron oversees all IT responsibilities including IT and retail support, cybersecurity and networking, web and integration development, reporting, and data management. Currently, he is working on modernizing the technical stack, system integrations, and cloud migration.

Joseph Mangatoor, Vice President, Operations

Joseph Mangattoor joined Roots in 2015. He has over 16 years of Supply Chain expertise in the retail and consumer packaged goods industry, leading complex global operations for multiple Fortune 500 companies. He has held corporate leadership roles within distribution, transportation, logistics, forecasting and replenishment, and supply chain improvement functions. Joseph holds an Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from the Sloan School of Management at MIT, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business at York University, a Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology Management from Toronto Metropolitan University and is a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt. Joseph currently sits on the Program Advisory Council for the School of International Business Management graduate studies at George Brown College.
